A hemostat is a tool that is used by surgeons in almost every surgical procedures and therefore it is a very important medical tool. The handles have to be three to four times longer than the jaws of the hemostat so as to apply high pressure to the tissue that it is being used to hold. The main difference between the hemostat and an ordinary pair of scissors is the ratchet. The ratchet has jaws which can hold a tissue at different levels of pressure and can be adjusted by the surgeon when the need arises. The user does not need to apply any pressure on the hemostat because the jaws interlock and are able to apply the required amount of pressure on a tissue without any problems. Hemostats should also have a good joint and not the normal joint that is used in ordinary scissors. They should have a strong joint which cannot get loose easily. The hemostats are very important tools used in surgeries and the medical world would have problems if this tool would not be existing.
